I may be in transit in Nadi and thought I may continue my journey the next day, leaving me a full day and night. I wont have time to go to an island, so I am looking for a decent place in Nadi and a good day's itinerary.

If you mean Nadi (Nandi), my advice is forget it, not a pretty town. You should have time to get a day boat tour out to Beachcomber, Castaway or Treasure Island. I think you have to get a cab to Lautoka and boat from there. Cabs are cheap, Indian drivers are very obliging and will wait all day for you to take you home. Beachcomber gives you that tropical island feel and lunch is usually included. Good value, good snorkelling, great bar on the beach. If you can't get to island then I would suggest visiting one of the nearby five star resorts and pass the time there. It is a few years since I have been to Nadi, but it doesn't have much going for it, crappy tourist shops. Even a tour out to some villages would be more interesting. Lovely people. over 9 years ago

The Denarau island resort complex is a 25 minute drive from Nadi airport and you have a choice of Sheraton, Hilton, Sofitel, Raddison, Westin and more. The nearby marina is the stepping off point for day and half-day trips to sandy islands off the coast.
Denerau IS an island, but only just.... there's a road bridge over a canal about 20 metres wide. The resort and marina complex is "gated" so it's very safe. over 9 years ago

When I'm in Fiji on business I usually plan a night or two at Sandalwood Lodge in Martintar, half way between Nadi town and Nadi airport. It's basic, clean, reasonably cheap, has a small pool and is only a FJ$15 taxi ride (or 2 x $1 bus rides) from Denarau Island where you have all the resort hotel restaurants plus several at the Port, including my favorite "Nadina" (pronounced Nandeena) - which serves traditional Fijian food in a modern restaurant setting. The staff there are super friendly. over 9 years ago

I would second Denarau island - especially if you are going out to the "real" islands the next day. Nadi is pretty awful over 9 years ago

Just spent my leading and trailing night (flights to Sydney are awkward to line up) from my trip to Fiji in the Denerau Sofitel.

It was decent, with the amount of holidaying Australians it felt closer to being in the Gold Coast than it did to being in Fiji, but it served it's purpose. Comfortable with a decent attached restaurant. over 9 years ago

Hotel Mercure in Nadi is a french hotel and its very nice. Nicely set up with outdoor cocktail lounges and reasonable prices.. Less than $85 US when I stayed there. Around 5 minutes from the airport. almost 9 years ago
